Ada Lou Brooks Yonkee, of Parkman and Sheridan, Wyoming, passed away on September 3, 2010 at the age of 70. Ada Lou was born in Sheridan to Adolph and Ruth (Brooks) Yonkee on October 28, 1939. She grew up on the family ranch near Parkman as well at their home in Sheridan.
Ada Lou started school at Slack School on Pass Creek Road, but soon transferred to St. Coletta’a School in Wisconsin, where she would ride the train to and from every year.
In her 20’s and 30’s Ada Lou worked a Renew until her parents passed away. At that time Ada Lou moved permanently out to the ranch where her sister, Kay Dockery, cared for her.
Ada Lou is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Julia Burris, Nancy Gentry, Lyman Yonkee, and Kay Dockery. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Ada Lou’s greatest loves were her cats and fishing. She was a member of the Parkman Promoters. For the past six years Ada Lou has resided at Westview where she was a beloved resident. She loved participating in the activities at Westview and was a member of their Ret Hat Society.
A celebration of her life will be Friday, September 10, 2010 in the Dayton Park at 11:00 a.m. Music will be provided by family friend Rosanna Henderson. Ada Lou’s nephew Robert Burris will conduct the celebration of her life.
Memorials in memory of Ada Lou can be made to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, or the Day Break Program at the Senior Center. Arrangements are with Champion Ferris Funeral Home.
