Anita Sue Schuman

July 11, 1940 - February 26, 2020

About:

Anita Sue (Finnerty) Schuman passed gently into heaven on February 26, 2020 after a brief, sudden illness preceded by several years of dementia. She worked her whole life to share her faith with others so that they too would be able to join with her in heaven someday. Anita had spent her whole life preparing for the final leg of her journey and she is now at home in the presence of God.

Anita was born on July 11, 1940 in Deadwood, SD to Merl and Myrtis (Strasburg) Finnerty.(Being born in Deadwood may account for her love of slot machine.) She joined her older brother Richard.  An infant brother, Gary, passed shortly after his birth. The family expanded when her sister Sally came along followed Brian, who was born after the family moved to Clearmont.  The family moved frequently with the Red Owl Corporation and spent time in Hardin, MT where her best friend was also named Anita. She developed a love for the Native Americans while in Hardin and comically changed the way she spelled her middle name for a while to“Sioux” wanting to be a part of something she had so much love for.

The family later moved to Clearmont, WY where she graduated from high school.  She and Neal ran away to Rapid City to get married but her sister Sally appointed herself town crier and made sure that the town of Clearmont knew before they got home.  They made their home in the Clearmont area until 1972 when they made the leap to purchase the ranch on lower Crazy Woman Creek where Anita liked to say she was “the crazy woman from Crazy Woman”.

Anita and Neal raised four children on the ranch teaching them the value of work, family and life.

Anita wasactive in her church whenever the church door was open she was there.  Anita was instrumental in starting Christian Women’s Clubs in this area.  She had a heart for missions and was always knitting a sweater, making a dish towel or building a quilt to give to someone or to missions.  After closing her quilt shop she continued to make dish towels which she sold locally to support her passion for missions.  She traveled to Haiti and Africa on mission trips and continued to support the work even when she became unable to travel.

Anita is survived by her loving husband Neal of 61 1/2 years.  Daughters: L. Gay (Lloyd) Wise of Buffalo,WY, Lorri (Scott) Lutterman of Buffalo, WY. Sons: Patrick (Marlene) Schuman of Sheridan, WY and Paul (Lara) Schuman of Buffalo, WY.
