Ann Peterson, 100, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Westview Healthcare Center. She was born Anna Elizabeth Hilborn to John and Abigail (Brock) Hilborn on December 25, 1910, in Valley City, ND. Ann, an only child, grew up and attended school in the small farming community of Leal, ND. After graduation from high school in 1929, she attended Valley City State Teacher’s College and taught school for a brief time.Ann married her high school sweetheart, Arnold “Pete” Peterson on July 29, 1930. Leaving ND in 1937, the family lived in Worland; Glendive, MT; and Cheyenne before settling in Sheridan in 1947 and starting Peterson’s Public Accountants. Ann helped with the business and was a homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress making many of her own and her daughters’ clothes. In addition, she knitted or crocheted an afghan for each of her children and grandchildren.Ann served as communion steward for the First United Methodist Church and as Princess Banker for the Daughters of the Nile for several years. She was also active in Eastern Star, Beauceant, Does, Electa Club, Newcomers, and a weekly sewing club. She enjoyed playing bingo and bridge, taking gambling trips to Deadwood, and watching all kinds of sporting events, especially those in which her grandchildren were involved.Ann was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Sundquist, in 2001 and her husband, Pete, on December 13, 1990. They had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family reunion the summer before. Her children survive her: A.D. “Pete” (Doris) Peterson of Sheridan, Shirley Sundquist (Jerry Nisbet) of Great Falls, MT, Judy (Bill) Musgrave of Decker, MT, and John (Mary) Peterson of Sheridan. Grandma Pete’s grandchildren are Gary (Clele) Sundquist, Pat (Ed) Hughes, Terry (Ruby) Sundquist, Charlie (Michella) Compton all of Great Falls, MT.; Stu Peterson, Sheridan; Karen (Russ) Solsky, Vail, AZ.; Tim Sundquist, Star, ID; Kyle Ann (Zane) Hopkins, Gering, NE.; and Mindy Sue (Shawn) Reed, Bend, OR. Ann also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held next summer. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Travel Fund, P.O. Box K, Sheridan; the Sheridan County Museum, P.O. Box 73, Sheridan; or an organization of the donor’s choice.
