Charles L. “Chick” Galey, 87, of Big Horn, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sheridan.

Chick was born on January 21, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA the son of William T. and Mary (Lord) Galey. His paternal grandparents immigrated from Aberfoyle, Scotland. As a young man, he spent most of his time in Jackson, Wyoming. He attended boarding school at Hotchkiss. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps on numerous Pacific Islands. After the war, he completed a bachelor’s degree in history at Princeton University. Chick married Frances “Frickie” Mifflin on October 18, 1956, in Philadelphia. After a brief stint back in Jackson, he moved to the Sheridan area where he remained for the rest of his life. He loved the outdoors, reading, spending time with his close friends, music, drinking, and most of all, his dogs.

Chick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances “Frickie” Galey, brother Bill Galey, and Sisters Jan Andress and Polly Wilson.

Chick is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Miff” Koltiska of Sheridan and Francis “Frank” Galey of Laramie; and two grandchildren Charles Galey and Ali Galey.

A private memorial gathering will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
