D. Evelyn Shelton, 97, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 12, 2011. She was surrounded by her family and friends.
Evelyn was born July 24, 1914 in Strahan, Iowa to Carl and Ethel (Clites) Paulson. She lived and went to school in Malvern, Iowa. After graduating from High School she came to Sheridan, Wyoming to visit friends where she met the love of her life Dale Shelton Jr., an Auctioneer. They were married July 21, 1934 in Billings, MT. They lived at the Shelton Ranch on Beaver Creek until 1955 when they moved into town. She then went to work at the Sheridan Greenhouse and Babe’s Flowers. In 1964, they moved to Escondido, CA, where Dale worked for the City of Escondido until his death April 23, 1974. Evelyn worked at the Walker Scott department store from 1964 until her retirement April 21, 1988. She moved back to Sheridan in 1989 to be close to her family and friends. Her mother came to live with her until she passed away January 13, 1995 at the age of 101.
Evelyn is survived by her son & daughter Dick (Liz) Shelton and Donna (Chuck) Lee of Sheridan. Her Grandsons Dan (Caroline) Dailey, Great Falls, MT and Rick Shelton, Sheridan. Her Granddaughters Mary Dailey (David) Smith; Bethie Shelton, Sheridan, and Debbie (Calvin) Gundlach, Colbert, WA.; also her Great Grandchildren, Jennifer (Troy) Darling, Rockledge, FL; Shauna, Bryan, Mitchell Dailey, Shawn Dailey, Oklahoma City, OK; Chelsey (Dustin) Morris, Sheridan; Amy(Robbie) Neihart, Helena, MT; Jimmy Semler, Oakland, CA; Gracie and Colton Gundlach, and Marie Shelton; and Great-great Grandchildren, Samantha Darling, as well as Hayden and Kyler Mines, Sheridan.
She will be missed by her dear friends Ron Dailey, Madonna Rowe and Cricket who were her Yahtzee and card partners.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dale, and Great-great Grandson Jayse Nixon.
Evelyn belonged for more than 50 years to Friendship Chapter #51, Order of Eastern Star and Sahida Temple #86, Daughters of the Nile She was a long time member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Evelyn loved her family, friends, and her home, where she enjoyed working in her yard, taking care of her flowers and pet rose bushes.

Visitation for Evelyn will be 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday (Aug. 16th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with funeral service at 10:00am on Wednesday from St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Masonic Section. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
