About:
Dorothy Lynde passed away early on the morning of January 21st, 2013 at the age of 99 and 1/2 at Powder River Manor in Broadus, Montana, where she had lived since February 2011.
Dorothy was born May 30, 1913 at Doniphan, Nebraska to O. O and Ella J. (White) Robb. She was joined by her older sister, Mildred, who was thrilled with the new baby.
In March 15, 1915, the family moved to Wyoming where they homesteaded just south of Gillette, WY on what is now Country Club and Dalbey Park. They lived on the place until 1942 when ill health forced the family to move.
When Dorothy graduated from high school, she went on to Normal Training so she could teach school. She taught in one-room schools for five or six years. Before she married, she would live with her students’ families during the school year.
On June 26, 1935, Dorothy married John Lynde at Hot Springs, South Dakota. To this union were born 3 girls, Donna Lee, Betty Lou, and Nancy Karen.
Following the wedding, they lived on the Lynde family ranch south of Gillette where she was a homemaker and mother to the girls. After the girls left home, she took to going hunting and fishing, which she enjoyed. They especially enjoyed the fall season in Jackson Hole.
John died in 1968, and within a year Dorothy moved to Sheridan, WY to be closer to her parents. She spent several years working for Sheridan Public Health. After that, she just kept up her house and garden flowers until she moved to the nursing home in Broadus.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Mildred Mockford; two daughters, Nancy Williams, and Betty Samson; granddaughter, Kaerene DuBois; and great grandson, Jon Greggory Williams.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Study of Sheridan, WY; grandchildren Don (Becky) Chapman of Kaycee, WY, Steve (Chris) Chapman of Buffalo, WY; D’Ann Wright of Sheridan, WY, Carmen (Rick) Turnbough of Broadus, MT, Ken (Barb) Samson of Piedmont, South Dakota, Tonya (Micheal) Piedmonte of Bluffton, South Carolina, Judy (Jake) McGowen of Midwest, WY; and numerous great and great, great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Don) Marquiss of Sheridan, WY and Evelyn McClure of Casper, WY.
