Elizabeth T. “Liz” Mills, 82, of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 in Westview Health Care Center.
Liz was born October 1, 1928 in Cork County, Ireland to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Regan. She came to America with her family when she was 2 years old. Liz grew up and attended schools in Far Hills, N. J.
Her father brought the first Irish Fox Hounds to America and he managed many reputable fox hunts in the East. Liz loved working along-side her father and brothers with the hounds and horses.
As a young woman, she was offered a career as a model, but decided to marry and have a family. Liz married her first husband, Frank Blaney, in 1947 in Far Hills, NJ. He was a professional jockey and she supported him in his racing career until his death in 1950.
Liz moved to Wyoming in 1950 and married John Mills in 1953 in Sheridan, WY. She belonged to the First Baptist Church and the Kendrick Golf Course where she was a serious and avid golfer, winning many state championships, and has shelves full of trophies. Liz helped to organize the Kendrick Golf Club over the years.
She was a dental assistant, working first for the Kane Dental Group and then working for Dr. Ewan until her retirement. Liz was a dedicated and true professional in her career.
She loved her church and golf. Liz spent winters in Arizona after her retirement golfing with her husband, John, who passed away in 2010. She continued to golf until her death.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Frank Blaney and John Mills; her brothers Jack and Jimmy Regan; and one sister, Nora Regan.
She is survived by two sons, Jock Blaney, of Las Vegas, NV, and John Mills, Jr., (Margaret), of Anchorage, AK; one daughter, Beth Larson, of Sheridan, WY; one brother, Aidan Regan, of IL; 4 granddaughters, Nicole Shosten, of Casper, WY, Brandy Phillips, of Billings, MT, Katie Mills, of Sheridan, WY, and Kayla Kewan, of Anchorage, AK; 2 grandsons, Rory Mills, of Sheridan, WY, and Adam Kewan, of Anchorage, AK; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and “Schotze”, their beloved Schnauzer dog.
Visitation for Liz will be from 1:00 P. M. to 4:00 P. M. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, February 11, 2011 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Big Horn, WY. A reception for family and friends will be held at the First Baptist Church, 3179 Big Horn Ave., Sheridan immediately following the committal.
Memorials in memory of Liz may be made to the Kendrick Municipal Golf Course, Sheridan, WY.
