About:

Gene LeRoy Schreibeis of Worland, Wyoming moved to his heavenly home on May 23, 2022, three days after his 93rd birthday. He was born on May 20, 1929 in Buffalo, Wyoming to George and Violet Lupton Schreibeis. Gene was baptized on December 7, 1930 and confirmed on April 28, 1943, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Gene and his family moved to a farm/ranch north of Sheridan soon after he was a year old. He continued to live there, participating in 4-H and FFA. He received the Wyoming Future Farmer of America honor during his high school years. He has told many stories of his potato picking days, dragging a sack along behind, getting heavier by the minute as more potatoes were added.

Gene graduated from Sheridan High School in 1947. He was one of the original students at Sheridan College and then graduated with honors from the University of Wyoming in 1952.

Gene met Bonnie Reed in their senior year in high school in the "lost and found” room sponsored by the Honor Society. Their years of courtship were mainly two dates a week, one on Wednesday when he was in Sheridan to attend classes and the other on Saturday when they usually attended a square dance at a nearby community hall. They were married in Sheridan at Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 4, 1949. They celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2021.

He then went into Agriculture Finance, first with Farmers Home Administration in Wheatland and Powell for about 5 years and then with Wyoming Production Credit Association in Worland for about 25 years. Upon his retirement, he worked periodically for his son in Rocky Mountain Reclamation, a surface land restoration company.

He was an active member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. At his present church, St Luke's Lutheran Church in Worland, he served as Trustee for 4 years, Treasurer for 14 years, and Elder for 4 years.

He was also an active member of the Wyoming District of the International Lutheran Laymen's League (ILLL) and served as its President and Vice President. He was the LLL Retreat Chairman for many years. He served as Governor of the Rocky Mountain District of the ILLL and as Student Aid and Recruitment Chairman for the Commission on Parish Services.

In Worland Gene and Bonnie owned an acreage where they raised hay, pasture, and beef. Gene was also active with the Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations.
