Gregory John Ferries

About:

Greg Ferries, 64, passed away at home in Sheridan, WY on May 12, 2011. He was born in Sparta, WI on August 1, 1946 to John and Audrey (DeWitt) Ferries. As the MVP of every sport he played, he graduated from LaFarge High School in the Kickapoo Valley, Wisconsin in 1964. The Ferries Family then moved to Sheridan, WY and started the Ferries Funeral Home.

In 1966, Greg joined the army and was honorably discharged in 1968. He went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming in 1972 with a degree in Agricultural Business.

Greg married Jane Jarvis of Shoshoni, WY on July 31, 1982 in Riverton, WY and shared almost 30 years of marriage. Greg graduated from John A. Gupton mortuary school in Nashville, TN in 1984 and was a third generation funeral director in Laramie, WY. In 1985, he saddled his horse and went to work with his father-in-law on the Flying M Ranch in Shoshoni, WY. In 1990, they moved to Sheridan where he was a real estate appraiser with Blaha & Associates until he was diagnosed with brain cancer, but was a miraculous survivor for 20 years. Through faith, the novelty of his terminal diagnosis never wore off on Greg; he died young at heart dreaming of cycling around the world.

Greg had many passions including music, traditional archery, hunting, cycling, and x-country skiing. He was a perfectionist in the wood-shop, transforming junk into treasure. He loved the wild outdoors and all creatures great and small. Greg was gifted with a patience for horses and shared many fond memories with his yellow lab, Barney. In 1968, he lived out his adventurous spirit and raced one of the first dirt bikes in El Paso, TX. Greg was an avid reader and philosopher; his favorite book being the Scofield Bible from which he drew God's wisdom in pursuit of righteousness. Diligent in prayer, Greg always strived to do what was right in the eyes of the Lord and reflected Christ in his deep love for others.

Greg was a member of the Sheridan Masonic Lodge #8 and the Kalif Shrine.

He is survived by his parents, and wife, Jane; children, William, Margaret, Andrew and Evelyn and siblings, Susan Berberick (John), David Ferries (Beth), Dr. James Ferries (Dr. Laura).
