Gretchen H. Duncan, 99, of Sheridan, Wyoming, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Sheridan Manor.

Mrs. Duncan was born in Moorcroft, Wyoming September 14, 1912 to Clyde and Helena (Dana) Johnson. She attended school in Moorcroft and Sheridan, before moving to Everett, Washington. She graduated from High School in Seattle, Washington, before the family moved back to Sheridan.

Gretchen married Elwood Duncan in 1932, in Billings, Montana. They resided in Sheridan all their life. They had two sons, John and Bob. Gretchen was an active member of the Sheridan’s Woman’s Club, the Sheridan Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phil, dedicated to her church singing in the choir and serving on the church alter guild.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Summers would find her enjoying the family cabin in the Big Horns. Winters would find her supporting the Little Bear Ski Club and in later years snowmobiling. She loved to cook and many enjoyed her dinners and luncheons. Summer Sundays would find her cabin full of family and friends, and her Sunday sons enjoying her famous fried chicken dinners prepared in a Dutch oven.

Gretchen enjoyed the wild flowers, wildlife, and all the mountain beauty. She loved to fish, going on pack-trips into the Cliff Lake with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; and a son, John. She is survived by one son, Bob and wife, Willa, of Sheridan, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several great, great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, June 16th, 2012 with Father John Meyer officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
