Henry L. (Hank) Beffert entered peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus at the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan, WY following a short illness. Hank was born in Lehr, North Dakota, August 2, 1916 to Margaretta Kranzler and Henry Biefert. He spent his teenage years working on various farms around Napoleon, North Dakota and Hardin, Montana. It was while he lived in Napoleon that he met his future wife, Clara Nord. Hank worked several years in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a World War II veteran serving in Alaska and Europe as a member of the Army Corps, Signal Corps. Hank and Clara were marred in 1945, and following his discharge from the Army, they moved to Sheridan where they raised their five children. Hank was employed as an electrician at the V.A. Medical Center for 33 years.

Hank dedicated his life to his family, his church and his community. He was a 4-H leader, assistant scoutmaster, Sunday school superintendent, baseball coach, church elder and a member of the church choir. While helping his own children in a variety of youth activities he touched the lives of many other children – providing rides to events, organizing camping trips, and providing guidance. He loved seeing his grandchildren and enjoyed hearing about all of their accomplishments. He was dearly loved by many.

Hank was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Clara as well as his brother Walter and sisters Lydia and Leah. He is survived by his children Larry (Sandy) of Rapid City, Jerry (Diane) Cheyenne, Susan (Ky) Phoenix, Verne (Leslie) Livingston, and Trish (Ed) of Denver as well as by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials should be directed to the Sheridan Public Library or to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Funeral service will be 10:00am on Thursday (July 12th) from Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Cain officiating. Interment will be on Friday in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD with military rites. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
