Howard W. Vos of Sheridan, Wyoming passed away peacefully Saturday morning, December 11, 2010 at Saddle Ridge Therapy Center in Sheridan.Born August 27, 1932 on a farm in Iowa to William and Artie Vos, Howard spent most of his youth and young adult life farming, and worked on various ranches in other states. He graduated from the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, MT in 1963, which led to a long career selling household, farm, ranch, and livestock auctions throughout the country.Howard was a recipient of many awards, including "Iowa State Champion Auctioneer" in 1969 and finalist in the "Iowa Champion Livestock Auctioneer" contest. He served as president of the Iowa Auctioneer's Association in 1970. He had a lifelong love for and knowledge of horses, cattle, farming, ranching, and the western way of life.He leaves behind his lovely wife, companion, and friend Georgia; five children from a previous marriage: Judy Vos-Ferneau of Butte, MT; Miriam Stewart (Tom Nance) of Sheridan, WY; Linda Simbro (Burton) of Monroe, IA; Maureen Vos of Casper, WY; Michael Vos of Oskaloosa, IA.; Georgia's two children Mae Craig and Heather Purdy of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada; two granddaughters: Lesley DeRenzo (Patrick) of Eastlake, OH and Vanessa Stewart (Justin Allen) of Breckenridge, CO; a sister: Arlene Benson (Laverne) of Spencer, IA; a brother: Raymond Vos (Barbara) of Woodside, CA; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents.A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Champion Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
