Julio Gaona

Julio Gaona, 81, of Ranchester, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Gaona was born Jan. 28, 1928 in Anson, Texas, to Donaciano and Alejandra (Roque) Gaona. He joined the U.S. Army and was with the 3010th Army Air Forces Base Unit at Williams Field, Ariz., from January 2, 1947 to Dec. 21, 1949. Gaona married Guadalupe Barrera April 12, 1953, in Edroy, Texas. He was a timekeeper for Sheppard and Geiger in Texas, then moved to Casper where he was a maintenance worker and then he worked for Wyoming Machinery. Gaona enjoyed making salsa, experimenting with chili peppers, dancing, singing, reading the Bible, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Oscar; four sisters, Tirza, Celestina, Nicolasa, and Lasarra and three brothers, Lupe, Pablo and Baldomero. Gaona is survived by his wife, Guadalupe, of Ranchester, five sons, Donaciano David, Mario (Nadine), Ricardo, Gavino (Jennifer) and Oscar (Shannon) Gaona; two daughters, Lillian Serna (Juan) and Julie Condelario (Todd); two brothers, Rodolf and Jose (Cuca) Gaona; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father Thomas Ogg officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
