Funeral services for Keith Fredrick Ware will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home, followed by a brief burial service at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
A reception will begin at noon at the Big Horn Woman's Club.

Mr. Ware died April 28, 2011.

He was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Chicago to Fredrick and Emma (Stewart) Ware and grew up on his family's homesteaded lands in the cattle and sheep-ranching area near Rozette, Wyo. He attended grade school in the frontier-style one-room schoolhouse typical of the times. After graduating from Rozette High School, he earned a non-degreed teaching certificate from the state of Wyoming. The state at the time offered a brief training and testing certification to anyone interested in teaching at any of its many one-roomed schools. Mr. Ware, after receiving certification, taught grades one through eight at a one-room school near Rozette.

He volunteered in 1943 for Navy duty during World War II and served on a sub-chaser in the Pacific Theater. He participated in submarine patrols in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and convoy escort duty around the Hawaiian Islands and the Philippines.

After discharge from the Navy, he returned to Rozette. On June 22, 1946, he married Patricia Ann Mohan of Gillette. Their marriage was ended by her death in 2007. After an unsuccessful bid for a seat in Wyoming's House of Legislatures, Mr. Ware moved his family to Sheridan where he accepted at job with the Veteran's Administrative Hospital at Fort MacKenzie. He worked there for 26 years, until he retired.

During his retirement years, he built a log home and small cattle ranch for his family on land acquired in the Hidden Hills development near Sheridan. Mr. Ware was an avid big game hunter and fly fisherman, spending as much time as possible in the Bighorn Mountains fishing and camping with his family. In the fall, he enjoyed hunting with his family and “hunting buddies.”

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathy Ware and Linda Ware Slack.

Survivors include a son, John; a daughter, Pamela Ware See; two grandsons, Charlie and Randy Ware; a granddaughter, Jennifer Slack Scarpulla; three great-grandsons, Riley and Brayden Ware and Trystan Scarpulla; and one great-granddaughter, Jade Scarpulla.
