About:
Kenneth "Kurt" Luplow
October 29, 1949 - August 26, 2010
Kenneth "Kurt" Luplow, 60, of Banner died at home on Thursday, August 26, from kidney cancer. He was born on October 29, 1949 in Saginaw, MI to Kenneth Dale Luplow and Phyllis Ione (Thomas) Luplow. When he was young, his family moved to a farm in St. Charles, MI, where his lifelong love of horses began. He graduated from Chesaning High School and Ferris State College. In 1969, he loaded up his Triumph Spitfire and headed west. His first stop was Steamboat Springs, where he helped construct a hotel. Shortly after, he continued on to Jackson, WY, where he worked construction and learned to play polo working for Warren Erbe. Five years later, he moved to Big Horn to work for Doc and Bunny Connell. He also worked for Husman Construction before starting his own construction company, first Diversified Builders, then Banner Log Home Company. He married Jean Spratley in Windsor, England in 1973. They had a son, Courtney. They later divorced and he married Terri Liska in 1987 in Sheridan. They have two sons, Drew and Craig. He loved his horses, and chose to play polo because he didnÕt have to travel far from home. He was a member of the US Polo Association since 1974 and the Big Horn Polo Club. He was inducted into the Big Horn Polo Club Hall of Fame on August 15, 2010. He also loved to fly-fish with his sons and friends. They would spend the day at the Big Horn, mostly enjoying each others' company, not catching many fish. Late in life, he learned to play hockey when his sons became involved and encouraged him. He went on to earn his official's badge and was a Level 3 USA Hockey referee for the local youth hockey games. He spent many weekends teaching his children to ski at Antelope Butte Ski Area, and loved to ski whenever he could. He played cribbage, and family meals were not complete without a vocally competitive game. Many of his sons' friends were taught to play the game in the Luplow house. He was proud of every house he built. Though he never took himself too seriously, he was always a perfectionist when it came to his work. He was an honest businessman, a loyal friend, and a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Terri, sons, Courtney of Sheridan, Drew and Craig of Banner and Laramie, and brother Tim of Missoula, MT. Memorials may be made to : Polo Club at University of Wyoming, c/o Amanda Diehl, 1703 Person St. Laramie, WY 82070. Kurt requested cremation, with no services.
