Luella Harnish Campbell Schaeffer Worthington died Thursday, November 25, 2010, after a brief stay at Sheridan Manor.

Luella was born July 25, 1920, in Julesburg, Colorado, the only daughter of George H. Harnish and Rose Adelaide Rhodes. She had three brothers; Harold (Red), Lee Roy (Buzz) and George Allen.

Early in 1930, the family moved to Yakima, Washington to work in the apple orchards. In 1933, when Luella’s mother died the family moved to Wyoming. While her dad and brothers worked at various farm jobs Lu worked as waitress in the Coffee Cup Café in Clearmont, WY where she met Robert R. Campbell (Bob), they were married on June 14, 1939.

Soon after Lu and Bob married he was hired by the CB&Q railroad as ticket agent & telegrapher and Lu continued to work as a waitress. Bob and Lu’s first son David was born in 1940. Bob was inducted into the Navy in 1944 and two months later in April a second son George was born. After release from the Navy, Bob resumed his employment with the CB&Q railroad as telegrapher in Newcastle, WY and Lu was busy raising two boys. In later years, Lu worked for Montgomery Ward in Gillette, then Walgreen’s in Casper, WY and Lincoln, NE. Lu continued to work for Walgreen Drug store as restaurant manager completing twenty-five years of service. In 1979, Bob retired his Train Dispatcher position with the railroad and they moved to Queen Valley, AZ. Bob died at age sixty nine in 1988 and is buried in Chandler, AZ.

In 1989, Lu married Ora (J.R.) Schaeffer and they lived in Arizona, New Mexico and Nebraska until his death in the spring of 1995.

Lu married Ed Worthington in 1996 and in March 2006 they moved to Sheridan to live close to her sons David and George. Ed died in September that same year. Since moving to Sheridan Lu has been an active volunteer at the Senior Center and a member of the First Christian Church. A group of nearly eighty friends and family helped Lu celebrate her 90th birthday on July 25, 2010 in Kendrick Park in Sheridan.

Lu is survived by her two sons, George and David Campbell of Sheridan, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2:00pm on Friday (Dec. 3rd) from First Christian Church with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials may benefit the Senior Citizen Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan.
