About:

MARGUERITE (MIGGS) C. GARBER
JULY 23, 1918 - OCTOBER 12, 2009

Marguerite (Miggs) C. Garber died Monday, October 12 at her residence in Big Horn after a short illness. She was born Marguerite Claire Story in Sheridan, Wyoming on July 23, 1918. She married Orr W. Garber on December 17, 1938. She raised five children and spent her life dedicated to working on the ranch and supporting Orr in his local and national soil conservation efforts. She drove trucks, chased parts, cooked for ranch hands, withstood the rigors of hunting for lost livestock in the mountains and putting up the hay before it rained. She also subscribed to fine arts magazines and loved to dress in her hats and gloves for outings in to town. Her children and her grandchildren always came first. She enjoyed taking long walks on the ranch and hunting local artifacts, reading, bird watching, writing poetry and gardening. With a keen sense of humor, Miggs laughed easily and enjoyed making others laugh. She was tested throughout her life as she was preceded in death by her parents Blanche Beucler Story and Charles Henry Story of Sheridan, her brother Charles (Chuck) Story of Belgrade, Montana; her husband Orr Willits Garber, sons James Willits Garber and Orr Willits (Chip) Garber, Jr. She is survived by children Richard Story Garber and his wife Elaine Henry, Susan Garber Malyurek and her husband Thomas Malyurek, Thomas Victor Garber and Chip_s widow Reba Garber Johnson; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and her sister, Adeline Story Elliott of Austin, Texas. She was greatly loved and is sorely missed. Private services were held at the Mount Hope cemetery in Big Horn. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the Big Horns.
