Maximo Maxidas Vigil, 88, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Sheridan VA Mountain View Living Center after a battle with cancer.
Max was born July 13, 1922 to Charles and Maria (Martinez) Vigil in North Veta, Colorado. His family moved to Douglas, Wyoming in 1930 and then to Clearmont, Wyoming in 1937 where he attended school.
In 1944 he joined the US Army and was stationed at Camp Hale, Colorado where he served with the 601 Field Artillery Battalion. He was sent to Okinawa with the 3063 Graves Registration Company. He returned to the States and was discharged in January 1946.
He married Harriet Ann (Towne) Saunders on February 22, 1951. They lived in Sheridan where they raised their children. Max worked as a mechanic for a number of years before he went to work at the Sheridan VA Medical Center until his retirement. He and Ann enjoyed taking short trips around Wyoming to explore different places. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, dancing, watching television, and reading his Bible.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, his parents, two brothers, Fermin and Henry Vigil, and three sisters, Caroline Gold, and Arcelia and Mary Lou Vigil.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Rosemary Ann (Saunders) Burwell (Billy) Casper, WY, and Maryline Gail (Saunders) Parker, Everett, WA; his daughters Roxanna Marie (Vigil) Weaver (LeRoy) Sheridan; Felicia Inez (Vigil) Freeman, Everett, WA; his son, Forrest Dale Vigil (Gloria), Sheridan; one sister, Catherine Argue of Gillette, WY and one brother, Charles Vigil of Phoenix, AZ, as well as 13 grandchildren, and 31 great-grand children.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 20th at Champion Ferries Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Chaplin Dillard Officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
