Miriam "Gwen" Williams

March 29, 1938 - February 29, 2020

About:

Miriam "Gwen" Williams passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday February 29, 2020. Gwen was the miracle baby of Melvin and Dorothy Eckhardt. Due to her mother's health complications, Gwen was born at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN on March 29,1938. She grew up in Casper, WY and graduated from Greybull High School in 1956. In high school she met the love of her life, Duane Williams and they were married on April 14, 1956. Because she was an only child, she always dreamed of having a big family. After getting married, her wish was granted. Gwen and Duane had four children; Debbie, Donnie, Dorothy and Danny and their family became complete when they adopted Connie. Shortly after getting married, Gwen and Duane moved to Sheridan, where they raised their family.

Gwen was a petite woman with a large presence. She loved Christmas and would spend hours decorating her home. She would start shopping for Christmas gifts in the summer and put a lot of thought into each and every gift. When you got a gift from Gwen, rest assured it was carefully picked out just for you.

Gwen loved her family with all her heart. She loved spending time with each one of her children and as her family grew, she made a special place in her heart for each one of her grandchildren.  She didn't like to be alone so she made a habit of taking a grandchild with her wherever she went. It was through running those errands that she formed a lasting bond with all the members of her family. Sunday dinners were a tradition as well as shopping trips to Billings. You could always count on her to cheer you on at sporting events, rodeos, concerts and 4-H State Fair. She never sat still for long, but on those rare occasions, she passed along her love of knitting, crocheting, and painting ceramics. She had a special talent for making everyone feel exceptional. She was the first person you wanted to call when you had exciting news to share because somehow sharing it with her made it even better.

Gwen worked at various places in Sheridan but her favorite job was working at Sheridan High School. She worked in the Social Studies department for many years until the new high school was built and she transferred to the library. She loved working with the kids and they loved her. She retired in 1995 and enjoyed collecting and selling antiques with her husband for many

years.

Gwen is survived by her husband, Duane and their five children; Debbie (Tom) Gorzalka,Donny (Jana), Dorothy (Kim) Bangerter, Danny (Laura), and Connie (Keith) Klein. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Russ, Steven, Rene', Jared, Mandy,Shyla, Johnathan, Levi, Chelsie, Charlie, Josh, Zack, Olivia and Kyle as well as numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Gwen's wish for a big family has been fulfilled as she welcomed each new member with loving arms.
