Shirley I. Zeglin

September 15, 1932 - May 21, 2020

About:

Longtime Sheridan resident, Shirley Zeglin passed away on May 21st at the Greenhouse Living of Sheridan.  Shirley resided at the Greenhouse for the past five years; her family is forever grateful to the Founder’s Cottage staff for the expert, compassionate care she received.

Shirley came into this world on September 15, 1932 in Lusk, Wyoming.  Her parents,Lillie and James McCune had three daughters.  Shirley was very close to her two sisters; Virginia Kant (deceased) and Carolyn (Ted) Meline, now of Casper. Shirley grew up surrounded by many cousins and extended family. In high school, she was an avid bass drum player and graduated from Lusk High School in 1950.  She loved returning to Lusk to attend high school reunions throughout her adult life.

As ayoung woman, Shirley worked as a telephone switchboard operator.  She caught the eye of a young Optometrist, Phil Hall who moved to Lusk to set up practice. She and Phil were married on February 19, 1955. Shirley and Phil moved to Sheridan in 1956 and began to involve themselves in the Sheridan Community both professionally and socially.  They had three children; Teresa, Greg, and Lonn Hall.

The Halls acquired an original Helsburg cabin on Red Grade where many good times were spent over the years. They were also involved in the original development of Antelope Butte Ski Area.  Phil passed away in 1967, which prompted Shirley to take on the role of super-parent to her young children.  In those years, she did all she could to provide the best life possible for herfamily.

Shirleylater met Dewain Zeglin and they were married in 1972.  Dewain, a weatherman with NWS, brought his two children to the family; Pam (Rapp) of Sheridan, and Fred Zeglin.  Shirley and Dewain were married 37 years before he passed in 2010. Together, they were a happy couple, and were very successful in blending their families and shared many happy years together.  Family adventures varied from trips across the state to cruises in Alaska.

Home base was 1411 Champion Drive; the Halls moved in in 1961, and Shirley never left.  Champion Drive was “home.”  Shirley would say the joy of living in the “circle” was being surrounded by wonderful neighbors, who were also lifelong friends.  She loved having visitors in her home and while there, fed them to their heart’s content.  People were Shirley’s life; she involved herself in the needs of her family and friends and was always ready to extend a hand.   She loved celebrations; family reunions, holidays, andweddings.  For Shirley, there was not a better time than flapping her arms on the dancefloor doing the “chicken dance” at a wedding reception.

Shirley was a member of the Pi Beta Sorority and Red Hats Society. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and loved her church family.  She involved herself with various church committees including preparation of funeral dinners, and visiting the infirmed at Memorial hospital.

Shirley is survived by her children; Teresa (Doug Rager)(Bently Rager) Hall of Snowmass, CO, Greg (Michelle) (Heddie Hall) Hall of Vail, CO, Lonn (Elif) Hall of Sparks, NV and Eskisehir Turkey, Pam (Bill)(Sarah Turbit, Dan Rapp and Tom Rapp) Rapp of Sheridan and Fred Zeglin(Dewain Zeglin) of Kalispell, MT.,  and sister Carolyn(Ted) Meline of Casper WY as well as many nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, and cousins who loved her dearly.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Butch Bennett officiating.  In Shirley’s name, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 215 W.
