Terrill Elaine Matteson (Terry), passed away at the age of 65 on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Billings, MT. She was born to Leslie C. Matteson, Jr. and A. Nadine Matteson on November 02, 1958 in Buffalo, WY. Terry attended elementary and High School in Buffalo.

Terry worked at the Dash Inn for 4 years in High School. She competed on the Buffalo Forensic Team and graduated from Buffalo High School in May 1977.

Ms. Matteson studied psychology for two years at Sheridan Community College. She transferred to the University of Wyoming where she graduated in December 1981 with a B.S. in Psychology. Terrill then attended Appalachian State University in Boone North Carolina, earning an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and Human Development with a special emphasis on Medical Counseling. She completed her internship at the Northern Rockies Cancer Treatment Center in Billings, MT. Terry graduated in June of 1985. She was subsequently hired as a counselor for the Northern Rockies.    

Terry was on the Hospice Management Team in Billings; she was also a Hospice trainer and volunteer. In addition, Terrill volunteered at a mental health group home through the Billings Mental Health Center.

In 1988 Terrill left Billings to work for Douglas M. Wear PHP PC in Gillette, WY. This practice was later known as Life Strategy Center. In November 1998 Terry went into private practice as Matter and Preuit Professional Counseling and Meditation.    

Ms. Matteson was a Licensed Professional counselor in the state of Wyoming. She was also a Nationally Certified Counselor through the American Counseling Association.

In 2006 Terry left the counseling practice and went to work for Northern Wyoming Mental Health Center in Sheridan, WY. She was stationed exclusively at the Wyoming Girls School. Terry retired in 2015.

Ms. Matteson loved being a counselor and dedicated her life to the profession. She loved spending time with family and friends as well as traveling.

Terrill is preceded in death by her parents; Leslie and Nadine Matteson, A sister; Verlene Jean Matteson, and a brother; Michael Eugene Matteson.                      

She is survived by one brother; Everett Leslie Matteson, 5 Nephews, 3 Nieces, 3 Great Nieces and 5 Great Nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 03, 2024 at Champion Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vanya Mullinax officiating. A reception will follow immediately at Big Horn Mountain Eagles, 1760 Commercial Ave., Sheridan, WY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Terry’s name may be made to: 2^nd Chance Cat Rescue, 1850 Gabrielle Ct., Sheridan, WY 82801.
