Veronica "Fron" Panetta
About:
Born in Deitz #4 in Sheridan County December 14, 1914 to Jack and (Anna Junger) Steigelman, Veronica (Fron) Panetta, 97, gently and gracefully passed away Tuesday at dawn, 30 July 2012 at Westview Health Care Center. Her family worked all over Sheridan and Johnson Counties farming, ranching, and herding sheep. Fron was educated in Leiter, Clearmont, Buffalo and Holy Name in Sheridan. She graduated at age 16 from Clearmont High School with two full-ride scholarships.
In December, 1941, Veronica married Joseph Panetta and immediately moved to Seattle where her husband joined the WWII effort in the Coast Guard and she worked as riveter at Boeing Aircraft since she was so good at seeing a straight line. She learned to sew and cook at her mother's knee. Fron was a fine cook, learning to cook for a raft of folks growing up, waiting tables at Ann Newell's in Sheridan and cooking for all the family and their friends.
She was a "feeder" of her artistic flare which was displayed in her mastery of the needle crafts, drafting patterns and as a florist designer at Babe's Flowers in Sheridan. She was involved in activities around her kids at Holy Name School and Sheridan High School.
Fron fished all over Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Alaska and Mexico. She pierced lots of ears and enjoyed auctions and thrift stores from which she bought all sorts of gadgets (times 5) for her family and friends.
Fron was generous, humble preferring others comfort to her own, fun loving, loving life in all its vicissitudes and a devout Roman Catholic all of her life. She loved many and was loved by many.
Fron was predeceased by her parents, by sister, Mary Voiles; brother John Steigelman; husband, Joe; son, James; daughter, JoAnne.
She is survived by son, Joe Jr. of Sheridan , daughters Judi Panetta of Sheridan and Joyce Panetta of Rockville of MD; her grandchildren Charley Bell of Spokane WA, Cindy Bell Stark of Anchorage AK, Jessica Cunningham and EJ Panetta of Sheridan, Slade Clawson of Billings MT and Arianna Shahparvari of Rockville MD; great- grandchildren Jacob, Daniel and Meagan Bell of WA, Jamie Welle of AK, Delaney and Bailey Cunningham of Sheridan; great-great grandchildren DJ, Charley, and Joya Welle of AK; special friend Judy Balkenbush of Sheridan, numerous nieces and nephews and all of the dear people from Sheridan Manor and Westview who rendered such loving and tender services to our precious Fron.
Prayers for the progress of her soul in the spiritual world are requested.
Graveside service will be 3:00pm on Wednesday (Aug. 1st) in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Elks Section, with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating.
